Privacy policy
Last updated: July 3, 2026
ChurchDivest (“we,” “us”) is a grassroots movement. This policy explains what we collect when you join us at churchdivest.org, why, and the choices you have. We keep it short on purpose — we ask for as little as possible.
What we collect
Your email address — the only thing we require — when you choose to sign up.
Optional details, only if you choose to share them. After you sign up, we invite you (entirely optionally) to add your first name, ZIP code, faith background or denomination, your church or congregation, and whether you’d like to help organize. These help us connect you with people and actions near you. You can skip every one of them — and we never ask for your phone number, mailing address, or any payment information.
Some of those details — your denomination or church — can reveal your religious affiliation. We treat that as sensitive: we collect it only when you volunteer it, and use it solely to organize this movement.
Like most websites, our servers automatically receive limited technical information (such as your IP address and browser type) with each request. We use it only to keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse, not to build a profile of you.
How we use it
We use your email solely to send you updates about the movement — who is stepping up, what is happening, and concrete ways to bring the conversation home to your own church and community. We only email people who signed up, and every email has a one-click unsubscribe.
By submitting your email you consent to receive these messages. You can withdraw that consent at any time (see Your choices).
Who handles your data
We rely on a small number of trusted service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc., USA) stores your email and delivers our emails as our processor. Their terms state that you — not they — own your data. See their privacy policy.
- PostHog provides anonymous usage analytics (which pages are read, which links are clicked) so we can make the site better — and only runs if you say yes on our consent banner (see Cookies & analytics below). We configure it conservatively: no advertising or cross-site tracking, no session recording, no cookies, form contents never captured, and your browser’s Do Not Track setting is honored. See their privacy policy.
- Google Cloud hosts this website.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information, and we never will. We share it only with the providers above, and only as needed to run the list — or if the law requires it.
Cookies & analytics
We keep this simple, because there is very little to disclose:
- Strictly necessary (no consent needed). Cloudflare Turnstile protects our forms from bots and may store a short-lived security token to do so. We also store your cookie-banner choice itself, so we don’t ask you twice. That’s it — the site works fully without anything else.
- Optional analytics (opt-in only). If — and only if — you choose “Allow analytics” on our banner, PostHog stores a small anonymous identifier in your browser’s local storage (not a traditional cookie) so we can see which pages help people. If you choose “No thanks,” or choose nothing at all, no analytics runs and nothing is stored.
Changed your mind? Use “Analytics choices” in the footer of any page — it clears your previous answer and asks again. We use no advertising cookies of any kind, and never will.
Your choices
You are in control of your data. You can:
- Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email we send.
- Access, correct, or delete your data — just email us and we’ll take care of it.
If you are in the European Union or United Kingdom (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have additional rights over your personal data. Contact us and we will honor them.
Retention & security
We keep your email until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. We take reasonable measures to protect your information, and our providers maintain industry-standard security — but no method of transmission or storage is ever completely secure.
Children
This site is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
Changes & contact
We may update this policy from time to time; the date at the top reflects the latest version. Questions, or want your data removed? Email hello@churchdivest.org, or write to us:
