The witness we follow
Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a pastor who refused to look away as his own church made its peace with cruelty. When a movement inside his church fused the gospel with nationalism, he didn’t leave — he confronted it by name, helped found the Confessing Church, joined the resistance, and was executed weeks before the war’s end. From a prison cell, he wrote that the one thing of “incomparable value” he had learned was to see the world differently —
“…to see the great events of world history from below, from the perspective of the outcasts, the suspects, the maltreated, the powerless, the oppressed and reviled — in short, from the perspective of those who suffer.”
That is the calling we take up today: to look at the world from below — to refuse the silence that looks away, and to refuse the theology that baptizes it.

We celebrate the churches that name the genocide. We document the ones that preach it as God’s will.
We are coming alongside the church’s witness to break the silence — congregations across the country naming the genocide in Gaza and pledging to divest from it.
And we are shining light on Christian Zionism in our communities and churches — a teaching that calls the destruction God’s own will, and a refusal to speak truth in the face of darkness. We are not against the church. We love the church enough to tell the truth, in its teachers’ own words.

What faithful witness asks
A faith that looks away to keep itself comfortable is not the faith we were given. Breaking the silence is costly. It is also what it means to follow Christ.
Name it.
To call the killing in Gaza by its true name — genocide — however hard it is to say. Naming a thing truthfully is the first act of conscience.
Divest.
To withdraw our money — and our blessing — from what we cannot in good conscience support.
