In November 2025, The Mission Church of Carlsbad, the Christian & Jewish Alliance, and one event attendee filed a federal lawsuit against nine San Diego–area activists — with room in the complaint to add up to forty more — over protests of the church’s Israel events. They are asking for damages and a court order restricting future demonstrations. The defense has asked the court to throw the trespass claim out as a suit aimed at punishing protected speech.
On Wednesday, October 21, a federal judge hears the motions that will shape the whole case. (The hearing was originally set for August 19; the court reset it on August 12.) The defendants will be at the courthouse. Their community — including us — will be outside it. However the court rules, nobody should stand in that building feeling alone.
